Holy Months

Does Other Months Matter less?

We hear many virtues of charity during the month of Ramadhan.  We see people taking every opportunity to perform extra deeds or charity during this month.  But common sense tells you that the sufferings of poverty continue throughout the year and charity is needed all the time.  Herein lies the main problem.

Is the month of Ramadhan only for those who can give charity to gain extra rewards from God?  So the poor receive less charity during other months?

Do we wait for Ramadhan in order to give charity so we can gain extra rewards.  Do we save our money throughout the year so we get extra rewards from our charity in Ramadhan. While the poor can’t afford to wait for another 11 months for our extra generousity.

Are we really mindful of them or our own greed for rewards?  How sincere are we? Do we do it purely for charity, or extra rewards of Ramadhan?

This is clearly a false allegations against Allah, promoting a particular month for those hungry for rewards at the expense of those in hunger.  There is no reason at all for Allah to discriminate charity performed in other months, other than Ramadhan.

If we want to show our solidarity with the poor, we should assist them towards betterment of their livelihood and not expressed in hunger with them.  That is an insult to them as fasting had simply become a form of delayed gratification where we think about all the delicious meal awaiting us at the buffet table.
